Menstruation took half of my capacity.
Me, as a woman—like every other woman—go through a week of an uncomfortable body, feeling those body aches and cramps every single month.
Menstruation has a huge impact on a woman’s life. It shapes her hormones, her mood, her lifestyle, her sex drive—almost everything.
I believe God has given women menstruation for our own good. Menstruation itself isn’t a bad experience, but the extreme pain and intense body cramps are.
We don’t mind bleeding. Because when we bleed from the vagina, we often feel better. It feels like a burden has been released from the stomach. It feels like we are finally getting better after the bleeding. There’s a sense of lightness and peace that follows menstruation.
But women like me—those diagnosed with dysmenorrhoea—what we feel during those moments of bleeding, only we know. No one else can truly understand that pain. It’s a pain that is simply unexplainable.
It took half of my capacity.
You know why?
Because I can’t work on those days. My parents’ money isn’t spent on my gifts or little enjoyments—but on hospital visits.
Since I was in class 10, I’ve been going to the hospital because of period pain. And now, even after completing my bachelor’s degree, nothing has changed. Can you believe it?
